Administration Head of
School - Joseph Perez
Joseph Perez joined The Country School in the summer of 2008, succeeding Paul Singer after his 29 years of service. Joe's experience spans across oceans and includes time spent in both public and private education. Perhaps most notably, he has worked closely with TCS Advisory Board member Dr. Paul Cummins, Executive Director of the New Visions Foundation and founder of Crossroads School in Santa Monica. Over their six year association, Joe was instrumental in establishing three successful educational programs including a public charter school in downtown Los Angeles, an independent school in Northridge, and a specialized arts transition program for at-risk youth. Like many of our diverse students and families, Joe brings an interesting and eclectic life experience to The Country School. Born and raised in Hawaii, he is a graduate of The Punahou School. Best known as the alma mater of presidential candidate Barack Obama, Punahou is also the oldest school west of the Rockies and widely regarded as one of the best independent schools in the nation. Joe went on to receive his degree in American Government and History from Harvard University. From Cambridge, he headed to San Juan, Puerto Rico to join the faculty of a small, private school known for sending its students to the most selective colleges in the US. Joe moved to Los Angeles in 2002 to pursue doctoral studies at UCLA's Educational Leadership Program. Like his two predecessors, Joe is committed to The Country School's unique educational mission. Environmental studies and technology education are two areas in which Joe has been extremely active, and he has dedicated himself to improving and expanding our students' opportunities in both areas.
