Pre-School Faculty

Alaina Smith, Preschool Director of The Country School has been in the field of Early Childhood Education for over 25 years. She first began as an assistant teacher and soon made her way up the ranks serving as lead teacher and as a mentor for new teachers.

Alaina decided to continue her education first at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax , Nova Scotia and then at Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena . She is pursuing a Masters degree in Human Development at Pacific Oaks and is finishing her thesis on process vs. product artwork in the preschool years.

Alaina's passion in her career is making sure that all students experience a rich, creative, developmentally appropriate preschool experience. While as a teacher, and now as preschool director at The Country School, she challenges the staff and herself to continue ongoing training in Emergent Curriculum and anti-bias curriculum. Alaina also serves on the board of Valley Chapter Association for the Education of Young Children. She has held the position of Vice-President of Programs and is currently the Director's Rap Chair.

Under Alaina's direction, the TCS preschool program continues today as one of the most highly sought after early childhood educations available in the area.
