Annual Giving:
A Guide To Giving And Getting Involved

What is Annual Giving?
Each year the TCS budget includes a projected amount to be raised during that school year. This is called the Annual Fund. Annual Giving is the act of contributing each year to the Annual Fund. This fundraising allows independent schools to keep tuition a little lower, which can make a difference in someone's ability to attend our school. We look to our greater community to come together and help raise this difference between tuition and our budget each year. In doing this, families are able to give at a level that is impactful for them, which is different for each family.

We are proud of our community-centered approach, our low student-to-faculty ratio, and our top-notch faculty and staff. The Annual Fund helps us to maintain our commitment to providing each classroom with the resources it needs to thrive.

Who Gives?
Parents, grandparents, friends, alumni, Board of Trustees, faculty & staff. We rely on the entire TCS community to make a meaningful financial contribution to the Annual Fund.

If I Receive Financial Aid, Should I Still Contribute To Annual Giving?
Yes, we ask that all TCS families support of the Annual Fund. Reaching 100% participation is a declaration of solidarity, of saying “we’re all in this together.” Additionally, 100% participation is a criterion for a wide range of grants, so every donation goes a long way toward giving us access to new potential funds from foundations and grantors.

How Much Should I Contribute?
Gifts of all sizes matter. The act of giving is just as important as the gift itself. By giving what you can, you are making a commitment to the mission of TCS. You are claiming TCS as your home too, and celebrating everything this school does for your children. We ask each family to give at a level that is meaningful to them. Because giving is such a personal decision, we encourage you to give at a level that is impactful to you. For some that amount is $100, for others it is $20,000.

Where Does My Money Go?
The effect of the Annual Fund is felt throughout the campus. It contributes to teacher salaries and healthcare costs. It buys library books and funds ongoing technology needs. It helps fund financial aid. It pays the electric bill. It is as essential to the operations of the school as tuition.

Are These Gifts Tax Deductible?
While tuition is not tax-deductible, voluntary gifts to the Annual Fund are. We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization under the Federal Internal Revenue Code. All contributions to The Country School Annual Fund are deductible pursuant to the prevailing tax laws.
