diversity + Equity at TCS
We have built a legacy of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Since our inception 75 years ago, The Country School remains committed to providing an equitable, empowering learning experience. We foster and celebrate the unique identities of our students, families, and staff. Every facet of our school works to dismantle racism in our communities and promote equity and inclusivity.
Our Commitments
Ways of Engagement
Support from The Head of TCS
Head of School Holly Novick has been a fierce advocate, ally, and champion for social justice within the TCS community and beyond. Through her dedication to The Country School’s founding principles, our DEI program has become one of the most internally supported among the Los Angeles Independent Schools.
Student Experience
The Country School strives to provide an enriching learning environment engaged in DEI experiences for all our students. Coupled with developmentally appropriate classroom discussions and lessons, our students have the opportunity to participate in the following:
BIPOC focused Diversity Educational Book Cart, grades Pre K-5
〰️
School Wide Monthly Heritage Celebrations

Diversity and Equity Fair
Our school-wide Diversity and Equity Week allows members of the TCS community to participate and immerse themselves in cultural diversity. The week culminates with our fun, informative Diversity, and Equity Fair.
Hosted by our Middle School students, the fair allows our students to learn about history, stories, and achievements from a perspective of justice and fairness. Middle schoolers actively participate in the fair by selecting, researching, and presenting a learning booth, highlighting an array of social justice topics for our elementary students and guests.
Community Membership
TCS is proud of our intentional commitment to multiculturalism and inclusion for all community members. As a reflection, we are members of the following regional organizations dedicated to supporting families from BIPOC communities.
Founding Member of Southern California People of Color in Independent Schools (SoCal POCIS)
Founding Champions of Private School Village (PSV)
Parent/Guardian Resources
We have compiled a selection of resources that help to move conversations of race and racial justice forward within the home. These tools can be used by families as a stepping stone for thoughtful discussions and deeper understanding.
Faculty and Staff Professional Development
We provide sufficient opportunities, support, and access to impactful professional development experiences for our staff and faculty. Our professional development programs include but are not limited to:
Equity Through Collaboration
At The Country School, we firmly believe that diversity and multicultural education are integral components of a student's experience. To ensure TCS students learn about historical figures, celebrations, and traditions of BIPOC communities, our DEI team holds biweekly meetings with our educators. Through collaboration, every classroom curriculum is reviewed and built with an anti-bias focus and an actively anti-racist lens.
DEI Book Talk Series
Committees
The TCS Strategic Equity Steering Committee is composed of faculty representatives at each academic level.
